My current writing project is near completion. It is an study of American society and its implications for Americans psychological well-being.
This will be the first book directed at the general public about the current mental health situation in the United States. The book analyzes the origin of the epidemic of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and substance use disorders present today in American society. This is an unprecedented and unique work that will leave a lasting impact on the reader. In this book, I carry out an in depth psychological examination of the cultural and social factors that underlie a social system that predisposes people to mental suffering in ever growing numbers.
A synopsis of Why America Suffers:
At present, over twenty million Americans suffer from Major Depression. Another sixteen million experience anxiety severe enough to warrant a psychiatric diagnosis. Whereas twenty million American have serious problems with substance use. The compound cost of depression to Americans reaches a staggering 83 billion dollars, and it is rapidly growing, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 set in and a new unprecedented economic depression took over the country by storm.
From a psychological perspective, this generation of Americans is suffering more than any previous one. For many in this country today, the "American Dream" has turned into a true "nightmare." Why America Suffers is a book intended to awaken Americans from this "nightmare" and to offer them solutions to turn their lives in a more productive and less depressive direction.
"Why America Suffers" carries out an analysis of American society and examines the historical and present factors that promote psychological disorders. It is written from the perspective of a bi-cultural psychiatrist and psychoanalyst trained in Argentina and in the United States. The book is illustrated with personal experiences and examples taken from real life and from clinical practice.
Why America Suffers presents practical solutions to the many problems Americans face today. It also gives recommendation to start positive change--both in American society and in individuals.
While Part 1 of the book analyses American society, its history, and people's most common problems in it, Part II becomes a practical self-help book for every American engaged in the attainment of mental health and involved in the pursuit of happiness. This last element, being solution-focused--makes of this work an important contribution to the understanding of American society and its problems and it is a definite resource to the mental well-being of the American people.
